Vineyards

LOCATION

The estate is located on the famous ruta 40 at kilometer 40 south of Mendoza in Ugarteche (Lujan de Cuyo). The vineyards are 890 meters above sea level, just in front of the Andes.

The climate is continental with extremely low annual rainfalls (230mm/year). The grapes produced are very healthy with minimal intervention.

The significant temperature variations between the hot summer days and cool nights result in high quality grapes with complex aromas perfect for red wine.

SOILS

The domain has a total surface of 63 ha, from which 43 ha are under vines.

All vines of the domain are ungrafted.

The soils of Finca La Sofia’s vineyards are very diverse.

Rocky soils dominate the north of the property, whereas the soils in the south are sandy.

The east and center is predominantly clayey, towards west, facing the Andes, there is a higher percentage of round stones mixed with clay and sand.

TRELLISING SYSTEM

The vineyards are divided in vertical shoot positioning (VSP) and parral trellising system.  Parral is an old training system where the grapes remain protected from the sun.

Targeting sustainability, Lucas is implementing his experiences in organic and biodynamic viticulture in his vineyards in Mendoza.
